Dumb Money Wide Release Date Moved Up as Sony Details Theatrical Plan

A new Dumb Money wide release date has been set by Sony Pictures, moving the Paul Dano-led movie‘s debut up further from its original wide release date of October 6.

What is the new Dumb Money wide release date?

Dumb Money will now have a three-step platform release instead of a four-step one. The new release schedule is as follows:

  • September 15 – Exclusive Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, DC, Boston, San Francisco (previously Los Angeles and New York only)

  • September 22 – Moderate Release (previously limited release)

  • September 29 – Wide Release (previously moderate release)

Based on Ben Mezrich’s The Antisocial Network book, Dumb Money is directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay written by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum. The film stars Paul Dano as Keith Gill, Pete Davidson as Kevin Gill, Vincent D’Onofrio as New York Mets owner Steve Cohen, America Ferrera as Jennifer Campbell, Nick Offerman as Citadel CEO Kenneth C. Griffin, Anthony Ramos as GameStop, Sebastian Stan as Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, Shailene Woodley as Caroline Gill, Seth Rogen as businessman Gabe Plotkin, Talia Ryder as Harmony, Myha’la Herrold as Riri, and more.

“Dumb Money is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world’s hottest company,” reads the synopsis. “In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill, who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.”

Dumb Money is executive produced by Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Andrew Swett, Angelo, Schuker Blum, Mezrich, Johnny Holland, and Kevin Ulrich, along with Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss — twin brothers who gained attention for their connection to the making of Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook. They were famously played by Armie Hammer in The Social Network. It is also being produced by Gillespie and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear, along with Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder.
