Angry Youths Seek Jungle Justice, Damage Police Post, Burn Vehicles To Demand Suspect Arrested For Killing Friend Over Phone Charger In Abuja

During the week, a violent protest erupted in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, resulting in one fatality. The protest led to the destruction of the Jabi-Dakibiyu police post and the burning of vehicles at the post.

Meanwhile, the FCT police Command on Friday told SaharaReporters that it had commenced an investigation into the death of the deceased man identified as Amos Meshak.

Meshak was allegedly killed by his friend in the Jabi area of the territory.

It was learnt that a man identified as Madgit Maren allegedly stabbed Meshak while fighting over a phone charger at Jabi.

A police officer was said to have shown up at the scene to rescue Meshak and take him to the hospital.

Madgit was subsequently arrested and taken to Jabi-Dakibiyu police post.

However, when Meshak’s family were alerted that the victim had died in the hospital, they reportedly mobilised some youths and went to the station to demand that Madgit should be released to them.

The police reportedly informed the youths that the Madgit had been transferred to the Life Camp Police Division for proper investigation.

Not satisfied with the news, the youths destroyed the cars parked outside the police post with sticks, stones, and other dangerous objects, which resulted in a clash between the mob and law enforcement officers.

A source told SaharaReporters that the youths got angry because they believed that the police had freed the suspect.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police command confirmed to  SaharaReporters on Friday that the suspect was still in custody.

"The fact on the situation at Dakin Biu outpost is that on 05/02/24 at about 6 pm, some youths stormed the police outpost, requesting for the release of a suspect namely Amos Madgit Maren to them. The angry youths wanted a suspect who had earlier stabbed one Amos Meshak, who is now deceased.

"The situation was put under control and the suspect is still in custody. An investigation is ongoing,"
she said.
