Algeria in turmoil ahead of Nigeria clash as coach Rajevac resigns

Milovan Rajevac has resigned as coach of the Algerian national team, just two days after they played a 1-1 draw with Cameroon, in their opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

This was confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation in a statement on Tuesday.

An official statement read: “Mr. Milovan Rajevac resigned today, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from the post of national coach of the Algeria team.”

Rajevac was appointed in June 2016, with the task of leading the Desert Warriors to the semi-finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and to also qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

However, speculations began to grow over the 62-year-old’s future with the team, after his players openly criticized him after the Cameroon game.

The North Africans now have less than a month to appoint either a temporary or permanent coach, before their next game in the qualifying series against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Uyo.
