NSCDC orders submission of names, addresses of expatriate security firms

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), wants the names and addresses of expatriate security firms operating in the country to be submitted to it.
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Malam Abdullahi Mohammadu, made the demand at the Conference of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), in Lagos on Thursday.

The commandant general was reacting to complaints by some indigenous security professionals that expatriate security organisations had taken over their business.

“We are going to check the activities of expatriate security organisations operating in Nigeria. I want ALPSPN to give me a report on their names and where they operate.’’
Mohammadu said such expatriate organisations constituted threat to local practitioners.

“The association should also help us to identify quacks operating in the system. We will do everything possible to protect the private security business in Nigeria.

“People using NSCDC operatives for private guards will not be tolerated. We cannot be player and regulator at the same time’’, he said.

Mohammadu, represented by Mr Tajudeen Balogun, Commandant, NSCDC Lagos state, urged the practitioners to give intelligence report to government security agencies.

President of ALPSPN, Mr Davidson Akhimien, said it was willing to partner NSDCDC and other security agencies in intelligence gathering.

Akhimien said that starting from Aug. 1, they would be providing weekly intelligence reports gathered from members to NSCDC.

He assured the corps of some logistics assistance, stressing that the association would play its role to ensure better security in the nation. (NAN)
