Verizon rolls out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv

BlackBerry Priv owners who purchased their phones through major carrier Verizon will be happy to know that the Big Red has finally kicked off the rollout of Android Marshmallow update.

We reported last week that some Priv owners have already started to receive the update, but since Verizon did not confirm it we weren't sure if it will be available for everyone.

The good news is Verizon has just updated the BlackBerry Priv support page and confirmed Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now available for download. The official changelog contains lots of new features and improvements for the Priv, aside from those that usually come with Marshmallow.

First of all, Wi-Fi Calling is added, so Priv users will now be able to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network if cellular service is not available in their area. This feature will not be charged, as Wi-Fi calls to U.S. numbers are free, even while traveling outside the country.

The BlackBerry Keyboard got some improvements as well, such as enhanced prediction engine. It's also now easier to write emails with name suggestions from the contact app.

Furthermore, BlackBerry Priv users can now sort apps with separation between work and personal application on the Home screen launcher.

Some advanced features have been added to the camera application. There are new manual capture settings, such as shutter speed, ISO, EV compensation, and White Balance.

DTEK improvements include the ability to modify permissions on a system or per app level from within the DTEK app. In case the application detect something unusual in term of security, it will notify you immediately.

The update should be pushed OTA (over the air), but you can manually check for it and see if it's available to download.
