World's First Snapchat Surgery; Doctor Streams Operation Online Using A Pair Of Glasses.
A surgeon filmed a gruesome operation and posted them to Snapchat using a pair of glasses that record whatever the wearer is seeing.
Dr Shafi Ahmed used the £100 glasses, called Spectacles, to film a hernia operation.
He wanted to show his students what it really looks like to perform the surgery , and streamed it to his Snapchat account.
Dr Ahmed posted the video, which was recorded at the London Independent Hospital, online.
It was livestreamed to his students as an assistant painstakingly pressed the record button every 10 seconds - the maximum length of a single clip.
Dr Ahmed told BBC News he was constantly looking to develop his surgery by using things such as wearable technology.
The glasses upload the clips straight to a linked Snapchat account over WiFi or Bluetooth. Because the lenses have wide angles of 115 degrees, the video footage is similar to what the human eye would see in front of it.
The surgeon had to test the glasses to make sure they didn't get in the way of his vision.
