Dream Team VI equal Olympic record

Nigeria have equalled a record set by Hungary, East Germany and Serbia in 1972, 1976 and 1984 respectively, after they won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
The Dream Team VI held on to beat Honduras 3-2 on Saturday in the third-place play-off.

This made the country to become the fourth to win the Olympic football men’s gold, silver and bronze medals and also the first African nation to achieve that feat.


In 1996, Nigeria won the gold medal after a 3-2 win over Argentina in the final. In Beijing 2008, they won a silver medal, under current coach, Samson Siasia.
