Pep Guardiola’s side have been closely monitoring the forward for some time and are on the verge of securing a deal, although it is expected that the 19-year-old will be loaned back to the Brazilian club as he will not be eligible for a UK work permit.

Gabriel is currently with Brazil’s Under-23 side ahead of the Olympic Games but has confirmed that his transfer is imminent.

"My future is about to be decided, my family, my representatives and Palmeiras know where I want to go, my focus is all on the national team, and that gold medal,” the forward said.“The negotiations are almost complete, but my focus is here."
