Lebron James leads Cleveland Cavaliers to historic NBA title

Lebron James inspired the Cleveland Cavaliers to become the first team to overturn a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven to win the 2016 NBA finals.

The Cavaliers won the deciding game 93-89 to complete their comeback against defending champions Golden state, who had won a record 73 games out of 82 in the regular season.

James scored 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds to help Cleveland to their first NBA title against the best regular season team in history.

Led by the talismanic Steph Curry, the Warriors set a new record by winning 73 games, beating the mark set by Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls side in 1995-96.

James was named Most Valuable Player of the finals for the third time having won the award in 2012 and 2013 while helping Miami Heat to the title.

Cleveland's success ended the city's 52-year wait for a major sporting title with their last significant success an NFL crown for Cleveland Browns in 1964.

According to the BBC, the gap between victories represented the longest barren spell for any US city.
