Ambode gives road projects contractors December ultimatum

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has given December as the deadline to contractors working on various projects in the state to complete such jobs.

He stated this at the weekend while inspecting projects across the state, which include the expansion work at Berger bus stop.

The governor asked the contractors to work day and night to ensure completion of the projects by December 2016.


According to Ambode, the directive became imperative in view of the strategic importance of the axis being the major gateway to the state.
The expansion projects at Berger include the construction of about 700 meters slip road through which traffic outward Lagos-Ibadan Expressway can connect Omole Phase Two, Magodo Phase One and Olowoora.

The six meters wide road is designed with drainage channels, sidewalks and streetlights.

Apart from the pedestrian bridge, which has been completed, there are also expanded lay-bys and reservation areas at both sides of Berger bus stop to facilitate easy parking for commercial and private vehicles from the main expressway. Also, massive road improvement, construction of lay-by and reservation projects are going on under the bridge.

In a statement yesterday by the Chief Press Secretary Habib Aruna, Ambode, accompanied by top officials of the state government also ordered the construction of iron barricade under the newly completed pedestrian bridge to enforce its usage and facilitate free flow of traffic.

While briefing the governor on the work so far done at Berger, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ganiyu Johnson said the projects, upon completion, will not only give the area a befitting look, but also ensure a permanent removal of gridlock associated with the spot.

Ambode also inspected the newly completed lay-by at Car Wash bus stop in Oworonsoki.
