RUMOURS: Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring De Vrij

The Lazio defender is said to be in discussions regarding a new contract in Italy, but the two Premier League giants are ready to pounce with fresh terms still yet to be agreed

Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Stefan De Vrij’s contract situation at Lazio, with Repubblica claiming that the Premier League title hopefuls are ready to pounce.

The Blues were heavily linked with the Netherlands international over the summer, having failed in their attempts to lure other defensive targets away from Serie A.

Lazio refused to entertain offers, with De Vrij having missed much of last season through injury, and are now looking to tie the 24-year-old to fresh terms.

No agreement has been put in place, though, and that could leave the transfer door ajar in January for English suitors to make their move.
