Nigeria will qualify for WC - Iwobi

The Gunner is optimistic that the Super Eagles will qualify for the global football showpiece despite missing out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations
Alex Iwobi is confident that Nigeria will qualify for 2018 Fifa World Cup despite zoned in a tough group.

The Super Eagles must negotiate their way past Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon in qualifying rounds for a place in Russia.

He lamented the team's exit from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations but feels the fresh target is a ticket to the World Cup.

“The Nations Cup is the biggest sporting tournament in Africa, so we were gutted. But as a team we have to look forward and focus on the World Cup and our qualification matches,” Iwobi told Fifa.com

“It is a tough group for sure, but I don’t think there are any easy groups – it’s international level competition. I’m confident we can prevail. We definitely have the players to. If we prepare well, focus and play to the best of our ability I’m sure we will qualify,” he said further.

“All the teams [in the group] are good teams that have been former Afcon winners, and have players playing at the highest level, so we know we’ll be up against well-prepared teams,” he concluded.

Nigeria kick off their campaign against Zambia in October before hosting Algeria later in the year.
