NNPC boss removes Deen as spokesman, scraps unit set up by Kachikwu

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has effected a major shake-up within the organization.

About 109 Management staff were promoted, while 24 were redeployment.

The shake-up saw the return of veteran journalist, Ndu Ughamadu as Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division. He takes over from Garba Deen Muhammad, who recently denied reports that NNPC was planning to increase fuel pump price.

Ughamadu was NNPC’s Group General Manager (GGM) Government and Labour Relations before his new appointment.

He served as the corporation’s spokesperson during the tenure of former Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Gaius Obaseki.

Garba Deen will now serve as General Manager, Communications Strategy and Policy, while the head of the Human Resource department, Mrs. Adekemi Akitoye Adunni has been replaced by Oyeyemi Ladipo.

Although, all Group Executive Directors (GEDs) appointed by former GMD and now Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu retained their positions, offices of GGM Strategy and Execution created by the Minister within the entire Directorates have been scrapped reportedly to save cost.

The position of the Company Secretary and Legal Adviser occupied by Mr. Chidi Momah was split into two. Mrs. Hadiza Coomasie is now the Legal Adviser while former Momah remains the corporation’s Secretary.

The rejig in other positions in the corporation were effected across managerial cadre and some subsidiary companies of the NNPC.

Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, explained that the changes were to consolidate on the restructuring exercise through realigning jobs with requisite competences and experiences in line with international best practices, while taking deliberate measures to ensure fairness and equity as well as the capacity to deliver.

“As you might have heard, His Excellency Mr. President has approved the High Level Organogram of the Corporation and appointment of Staff into various positions.

“Most importantly, the changes were done in the spirit of entrenching professionalism and accountability which is a cardinal principle of our 12 Business Focus Areas which are hinged on the slogan moving NNPC Forward…Together,” he said.

While calling on staff members to support the ongoing restructuring efforts, Baru noted that NNPC has made some progress in the implementation of the 12 Business Focus Areas.

“We can now deliver crude to our refineries, we have stabilised fuel supply across the country, Frontier Exploration Services and Integrated Data Services Limited have mobilised to the Benue trough and will soon resume activities in the Chad basin,” he said.
