Nigerians React To JAMB Fixed Cut Off Marks

The Joint Admisson Matriculation Board (Jamb) is currently the No. 1 trending topic on twitter after their recent announcement left people pondering about the future of education in Nigeria.

JAMB has fixed minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria at 120, polytechnics and colleges of education at 100, while that of innovative enterprising institutes at 110. Institutions are, however, at liberty to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB.

The very fact that '120' was set as the minimum cut off mark admissions into Nigerian universities didn't go down too well with people on social media, and they reacted angrily at what is perceived as a blow to the Nigerian educational system.

Cut off mark for JAMB is now 120/400. They lowered the standards for President Buhari. They lowered the standards for Nigerian students.— Dr. Dipo (@OgbeniDipo) August 23, 2017

Jamb cutoff is now 120? Why not let people get into uni without writing jamb then? What's the point?— Mocha?? (@raychellered) August 23, 2017

Let's just pretend like the new JAMB cutoff marks is not meant to favour a specific part of the Country pic.twitter.com/fBguNv1boA— FAVOUR ONYEOZIRI (@Rouvafe) August 23, 2017

The problem with Nigeria is not JAMB cutoff marks, it's the fact that we have very few & ill equipped universities to serve the masses— FAVOUR ONYEOZIRI (@Rouvafe) August 23, 2017

When in 2021, unemployable graduates starts leaving the uni, remember that JAMB pass mark is now 120 for uni and 100 for poly. @julietkego— S. Nwakor (@Obunikechukwu) August 22, 2017

If you chose UI, Unilag, Uniben, OAU and go on to score 120 in Jamb thinking you will be given admission.
You are on your own— Education Minister (@IamJibbish) August 23, 2017
