For TBT, DJ Lantern shares a remastered Jay Z track that features a beat made up of the sounds of a live tennis match.
DJ Lantern has come through with the TBT gold today, dropping a CDQ version of Jay Z's "The Game Is Mine," which had been included on a mixtape in 2004. The new version is a remastered, no-tags edition of the song, and Lantern has shared a fascinating story on how it came into existence.
The DJ/producer had been tasked to do a 60-second radio commercial for Hov in support of his new S. Carter tennis shoe, and Lantern went to a live tennis match and recorded all of the bounces, grunts, and ball boys to come up with a beat that was properly suited for the promotion. For the ad, he just used snippets of Hov talking about sports, but Jay Z ended up swinging by the studio, and he liked the idea so much that he asked Lantern to make him a full beat of court sounds. And they ended the session with a dope collab, which had never received the proper audio treatment until now.
