UNN to Procure Washing Machines For Students

The University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka, plans to procure washing machines for its students to launder their clothes.

Its Vice-Chancellor, VC, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba, disclosed this yesterday during the 54th Founders’ Day press briefing of the institution.

He said it was unusual for university students to wash their clothes with their hands in this 21st Century, assuring that UNN students would soon be using machines to wash their clothes.

According to him, since university students in the West Indies could use washing machines to wash their clothes, UNN could also achieve such a feat for its students.

Ozumba expressed happiness that his administration had restored potable water in the Enugu Campus of the university, adding that water had not been running in the campus for the past 15 years.

The VC, who is 100 days old in office, said his overall agenda was to provide the university the leadership needed to become an academic giant and pacesetter in the quality of scientific research, the level of innovative teaching and robustness of community service among universities in the developing countries.

Ozumba assured that the dreams and vision of the founding fathers of the university articulated in the motto: ‘To Restore the Dignity of Man’, were still in tardy.

He said he was fully aware that the mantle of leadership given to him by the governing council of the university was an immense privilege, but with great challenges.

“This is the first Founders’ Day celebration of the University of Nigeria I’m presiding over as the Vice Chancellor, and so it is a kind of first public presentation of myself. To God be the glory.

“My overall agenda is to provide the University of Nigeria the leadership needed to become an academic giant and pacesetter in the quality of scientific research, innovative teaching and robustness of community service among universities in the developing countries,” he stated.

Ozumba said by reason of the special historical relationship between the country and UNN, the institution’s 54th Founders’ Day coincided with the 54th Anniversary of the nation’s independence.
