Borno Desert Warriors win Volley Ball Peace Cup Championship

The Borno state Desert warriors volleyball team has won the 1st Edition of Peace Cup Championship after piping Army 7 Division volleyball team 3 win to 1.

The Championship, which was initiated by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division as part of his efforts in encouraging and engaging youths in sports, took place at the newly constructed volleyball pitch of the division in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Six teams participated in the three day event that featured renowned volleyball officials in Borno state.


In his address during the closing ceremony, the GOC who also doubles as the patron Borno State Volleyball Association, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu, congratulated the winning team for their victory while calling on other teams to work harder in the coming editions.

He explained that he initiated the championship out of the love for sports and to also engage youth to a meaningful venture which according to him will keep them away from criminal activities.

He called on Officers, Soldiers and the youth to make use of the opportunity created by such tournament to develop themselves in sports.

The special Guest of honour and the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Borno State Hon Ibrahim Abubakar Babali in his remarks extolled the virtues of General Ezugwu for initiating and sponsoring the championship which he said came at the right time.
