Man Discovers Live Bomb In His Garden While Working On An Extension To His Garage
A dad discovered a bomb in his garden while working on an extension to his garage.
Police were scrambled to the house in Clifton Drive, Swinton , after Colin Ainscough found the device, which was live, the Manchester Evening News reports .
He was digging a hole at about 4.15pm on Thursday in an area which was previously used as a play area for his children.
The bomb squad was called, and the bomb was taken away from the scene to be dealt with.
A number of nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, but when police had the situation under control they allowed residents back inside.
Mr Ainscough, his wife Sharon and children Matthew, 13, and Nicholas, seven, returned home when the bomb squad left with the device.
He said the bomb was about 26 inches long and five inches wide, but police did not confirm what type of bomb it was.
Police said they believe it had been in the garden for ‘a number of years’.
