Jerome Boateng ready to be Germany’s first black captain

Jerome Boateng has admitted he would be honoured, if he is named Germany’s first black captain ever.
The world champions are currently without a captain, after Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international football, following their exit from the 2016 European Championship.

Boateng has now thrown his name into the hat for consideration and told Kicker that he “would love to do it,” is “ready for it” and that it “would fit” him.

He said: “Of course, this would set an example. It would indeed be a huge honour to occupy such a role as the first black guy. That would be significant.”

The Bayern Munich defender was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year for 2015-16.

Other contenders for the captain’s armband are Bayern’s Manuel Neuer, Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and Juventus’ Sami Khedira.
