Oyeleye relishes pro debut victory in Las Vegas

Nigerian boxing s£nsat!on, Oluwafemi Oyeleye has admitted that his victory over Brian True on his professional debut did not come on a platter of gold.

The 2015 All Africa Games gold medalist got the first win of his career by way of unanimous decision in a 4-round Jr. Middleweight showdown against True (1-5, 1 KO) at the Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on Friday night.

In a chat with NationSport, Oyeleye, who recently signed a promotional contract with eleven-time world champion Floyd Mayweather said he was nervous going into the fight.

oyeleye-2While dedicating his victory to Almighty God and mother, Oyeleye however credited his coaching crew who helped him to prepare for the fight.

“I won’t call that an easy fight because I had to do more than I thought I would for the win. I haven’t been in the ring since after the All African Games which made me a little nervous going to this fight.

“I had an experienced coach in Young d!ck Tiger, Charles Nwokolo and his assistant Muyideen Abdul Ganiyu both Olympians and had a good career as a pro. So they help me to prepare well.

“I dedicate this fight to the most high God who vindicated me, and also to my mother,” the 22 year old told NationSport.

Oyeleye was training with Team Eagle in the U.S before joining the Mayweather team also said joining The Money Team gave him motivation.

“Fighting as a member of Mayweather Promotions is a great deal I must say, because you don’t want to put your promoter to shame whenever you are on the ring, and my team also.”
