Fifth seed Tomas Berdych became the first player to book a quarter-final ticket at the Paris Masters, keeping hopes of qualifying for next month’s ATP World Tour Finals alive.
The Czech, 29, saw off Spain’s Feliciano Lopez 7-5 6-3 to make his 13 last-8 progress at ATP tour-level.
Champion in Bercy, Paris, in 2005 and a winner already in Rotterdam and Stockholm this year, Berdych is currently No.
8 in the Race to London; a win away from sealing a fifth straight qualification for the season finale which will be held at the O2 Arena.

He will face the winner of the last-16 tie between third seed Stanislas Wawrinka and South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
