Task force arrests estate agent with alleged fake government documents

The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have arrested a suspected fake estate agent for allegedly defrauding innocent members of the public.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), while parading the suspect, disclosed that he was apprehended based on a complaint from some tenants led by one Nurudeen Duroti, a resident of No. 34, Olumo Street, Papa Ashafa, Agege, Lagos.

Egbeyemi disclosed further that the victim reported to his office that he was served a ‘Quit Notice’ on Lagos State Task Force letter-headed document.

According to the chairman, after the agency carefully investigated the document on which the ‘Quit Notice’ was served, it was discovered to be a fake Lagos State Task Force letter-headed document.
“A thorough search was later carried out on the resident of the suspect at No 48, Shita Street, Dopemu, Agege, where the agency recovered packs of different neatly-printed fake Lagos State Government document.”

He urged members of the public being victimised or harassed by any suspected landlord to always visit the ‘Lagos State Citizens Mediation Centre’ under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, where matters between landlords/tenants, mutual disputes, employer/employee among others are resolved.

The suspect, Mr. Sunday Obayemi, 45-year- old native of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State confirmed that he retired as a civil servant with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment in 2014.

He confessed to have been using different fake Lagos State Government documents in defrauding innocent members of the public through estate agency business and other environmental issues.

He, however, appealed and promised not to engage legitimate business if pardoned by the Lagos State Government.

Egbeyemi said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who was well- briefed about the incident, directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
