Hey Young World is a conscious hip hop song which is the third single by English-American rapper Slick Rick, from his 1989 debut studio album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.
Slick Rick wrote and produced the song, and it was released in 1989 as the follow-up to his commercially successful Childrens Story, albeit it did not reach the same level of success as the latter.
It however peaked at Number 17 on the US Hot Rap Singles chart and at Number 42 on the Hot Black Singles chart.
The song was referenced by guest rapper Kanye West in Keri Hilson‘s song Knock You Down.
American female group TLC also sampled the song for their 1994 single Creep.
