Another Nigerian, Nedum Onuoha, gave the home side the lead in the fourth side following a goal mouth scramble, and the Rs extended their lead in the 73rd minute when Tjaronn Chery beat Rob Green from the penalty spot.
Sebastian Polter added a third in the 93rd minute following an Onuoha assist as the Londoners made an early statement of intent in the title race.
Shodipo has been one of the bright lights for Rangers during preseason and has expressed his delight at beginning to establish himself in Hasselbaink’s plans.
The Dublin-born teenager, whose full name is Olamide Oluwatimilehin Babatunde Oluwaka Shodipo, moved to London when he was a child and offers power and pace across the forward line.
