Nigeria U17 Women defeat Sure Babes in friendly

Bala Nikyu's girls silence their Ilorin based opponents in a friendly played in Abuja as they intensify preparations for the U17 Women's World Cup in Jordan

Nigeria U17 women team recorded a 4-0 friendly victory against Sure Babes at the Fifa Goal Project pitch in Abuja on Monday.

The friendly encounter was part of the team's final preparations for the Fifa U17 Women's World Cup for competition billed for Jordan in September following it resumption to camp on July 31.

A brace from Rasheedat Ajibade plus Innocent Patricia and Cynthia Aku strikes ensured Bala Nikyu's girls defeated their visiting opponents from Ilorin.

Speaking after the game, Nkiyu toldGoalthat the match with the women team helped his coaching crew to better assess the players ahead of the age-grade tournament.

"I'm happy the girls had a real test playing against another female team and gave us a great chance to check them out too," Nkiyu told Goal.

"We are already close to the tournament and look out for more competitive women friendlies to be able assess ourselves more before the World Cup proper," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the team is already welcoming another friendly match against Women Premier League side Confluence Queens for a yet-to-annouce date.

The Flamingoes defeated Sierra Leone, Namibia and South Africa to qualify for the football championship.

Nigeria face Brazil in their first game on October 1, 2016 at the King Abdullah II International Stadium, Amman.
