LMC boosts women league with N10million

The League Management Company (LMC) has come to the rescue of the Nigeria Women Football League with the sum of N10 million, for the NWFL to successfully prosecute the second round of the season.

A number of clubs had ran foul of the provisions of the NWFL regulations, failing to honour three matches, and were subsequently thrown out of the League. However, with the latest lifeline, the NWFL will now be able to pay indemnities of match officials, taking the responsibility off host teams.

“We are happy for this lifeline from the League Management Company. This gesture has come as part of the NFF’s promise to take the Women’s League, and the entire women football sector, to a new level.

“We want to commend the NFF and the LMC for this, and I can assure you that the second round of the season will commence this weekend, with all the teams that started the season.
“We have rescheduled all the matches that were not played for one reason or the other, and the rescheduled games will be played in midweek while the regular matches come up during the weekends,” Babagana Kalli, Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee of the NWFL, told thenff.com yesterday.

Executive Secretary of the NWFL, Mr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, had explained that teams like Nasarawa Amazons, Tokas Queens and Capital City Doves (Premier League), as well as Cerezo Queens and State House Queens (Pro League) lost their slots for failing to honour three matches in the current season.

In letters conveying the decision of the Ad-hoc Committee of the NWFL and addressed to the NFF General Secretary, Abdulrahaman cited the provision of article 4.2 paragraphs 1 and 5 of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Women Football League rules.
