Why Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles trained only once on Friday

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 team, Samson Siasia, decided to cancel one of the team’s training sessions on Friday, to allow them rest and recover from exertions.
The Dream Team VI arrived in Manaus, Brazil barely seven hours to their opening Group B clash against Japan, but went on to defeat the Asian champions 5-4.

Siasia, who hailed his boys as “miracle workers”, then instructed them to only leave their hotel rooms for breakfast and return to rest until evening, when they trained at 6pm local time.


After breakfast however, Siasia took time to analyze the game against Japan, in preparation for his briefing with the squad.

The Dream Team VI are expected to have their usual double sessions on Saturday.

Nigeria will take on Sweden in their next match on Sunday.
