Man City Bench-warmer Doesn’t Regret Leaving Arsenal

Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna insists he has no regrets over quitting Arsenal last summer for a move to the Etihad Stadium.

The French international has struggled for playing time at his new club, though he insists he expected more competition for a starting spot due to the calibre of players at his new side.

Pablo Zabaleta has mostly been preferred to Sagna by City manager Manuel Pellegrini, with the former Arsenal man managing just nine appearances all season long in the Premier League, in stark contrast to the 35 games he played last season in his final campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

The 32-year-old has also had to deal with City slipping down in the Premier League table behind the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger’s men also looking on course for another season of silverware as they prepare for another FA Cup final, while Sagna looks certain to end the season trophyless.

“No, not at all,” he is quoted in the Daily Mirror when asked if he regretted his move.

“I see a lot of comments from fans saying I should have stayed at Arsenal but if I had to do it again, if I had to come back and sign for City, I would have done it again.

“I got used to playing every game with Arsenal and here I expected good competition because we have some top quality players.

“Here the squad is very big, so I expected the situation, I expected the rotation and what’s happened, so I’m not surprised.”
