NPFL: Abia Warriors FC appoints Coach Emordi as new technical adviser

The management of Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia on Wednesday unveiled Coach Okey Emordi as the new Technical Adviser of the club.
Presenting the coach before newsmen at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the Chairman of the club, Chief Emeka Inyama, said that Emordi was appointed to help reorganise the team and turn around its fortunes.
Inyama described Emordi as a veteran coach, with a history of impressive outing in the nation’s premier league.
He said that the management expected him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on Abia Wariors.
“We are not happy that we struggled towards the end of last season. So this time, we want to have a strong technical crew that will be able to rise to the challenge,” he said.
Inyama thanked the fans of the club for standing by it, especially when it was battling to escape relegation.
He also thanked Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for sustaining the club in spite of the current financial difficulties facing the state.
Responding after signing the contract papers, Emordi said that he was happy to join the club, adding that “I have been longing to come to Abia Warriors.”
He promised to put in his best and urged all hands to be on the deck for the club to succeed.
Emordi warned that it would be difficult for the club to achieve success, if any of the critical stakeholders “derails.”
He called for greater commitment by the government, management and players, in the task of moving the club to greater heights.
The coach underscored the need for the club to give priority attention to the welfare of players.
According to him, people often blame the coach when a team is not doing well but they do not bother to ask whether the welfare of the players is well taken care of.

Emordi, who reeled out his long exploits in Nigerian football, both as player and coach, recalled his success in defending the CAF Champion’s title as coach of Enyimba International FC of Aba in 2004 after it was first won in 2003 by Kadiri Ikhana.

The club used the occasion to unveil its new jersey for the 2016/2017 league season.

Emordi had coached other teams, including current league champions, Rangers International of Enugu. (NAN)
