Governor Al-makura begs Buhari for financial support to tackle erosion

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has appealed for federal government intervention to assist the state in tackling erosion problem.

Governor Al-makura made the appeal during the inspection of one of the sites in Lafia, the state capital saying that the intensity of the devastation caused by erosion in the state was beyond the state.

He called for support from federal government and other sister agencies to help the state tackle the problem of erosion.


He said that the incident required the intervention of the Federal Government through the ecological fund or other related interventions for adequate control and management.

He said the huge amount of money required to tackle the problem was not within the resources of the state government.

Governor Al-makura in a sober mood appealed to the residence to exercise patience with the state government as efforts were being made to ensure their safety, while urging them to respect building codes.

He explained that the state had spent so much funds to rescue communities in the state from widening gully erosion that was threatening the state capital and other local government areas in the state.


He sympathised with communities in the state on the ugly development and assured them that government would do all that would be required to ensure that the problem was tackled.
